How to Choose Flowers for Your Dad

Selecting flowers for your father requires a slightly different approach than choosing blooms for other loved ones. Start by considering his personality: is he traditional and understated, or does he appreciate bold gestures? For dads who favour classic style, rich greens, deep burgundies and warm amber tones tend to resonate well. If your father has a more relaxed, contemporary outlook, structured arrangements with architectural foliage or striking single-variety bouquets often make a stronger impression.

Think about the context of your relationship too. A heartfelt thank-you might call for something refined and elegant, while a celebratory occasion could warrant a larger, more vibrant display. When in doubt, lean towards sophisticated simplicity—most fathers appreciate quality over fuss, and a well-crafted bouquet with fewer, carefully chosen stems often speaks louder than an elaborate arrangement.

Best Occasions to Surprise Your Dad with Flowers

Father's Day remains the most popular moment to send flowers to Dad, yet it is far from the only opportunity. Birthdays offer a natural reason to brighten his day, particularly milestone years when a thoughtful gesture carries extra weight. Retirement marks another meaningful occasion—flowers can honour decades of hard work and signal the start of a well-earned new chapter.

Consider surprising him "just because" as well. An unexpected bouquet on an ordinary Wednesday can be more touching than a predictable gift on a calendar holiday. Flowers also offer quiet support during difficult times: recovery from illness, the loss of a friend, or simply a stressful period at work. And if you owe him an apology, a sincere arrangement paired with honest words can help bridge the gap more gracefully than words alone.

Dad-Friendly Colours and Styles

When it comes to palettes that appeal to fathers, think warm and grounded. Burnt orange, golden yellow, terracotta, deep purple and forest green tend to feel appropriately masculine without veering into cliché. Rich reds and burgundies convey respect and affection, while crisp whites paired with lush greenery offer a modern, understated elegance.

Style-wise, many dads respond well to arrangements that look intentional rather than overly ornate. Compact, hand-tied bouquets with clean lines often suit better than sprawling, romantic displays. Textural variety—think thistles, eucalyptus, or interesting seed heads alongside focal blooms—adds visual interest without appearing fussy. If your father has a particular hobby or passion, you might draw colour inspiration from there: earthy tones for the keen gardener, perhaps, or bold contrasts for the art enthusiast.

What to Write in a Card for Your Dad

Finding the right words for Dad can feel surprisingly tricky. Keep it genuine and avoid over-sentimentality if that does not match your relationship. A simple, heartfelt message often lands best.

For a warm, affectionate tone: "Thanks for always being in my corner. These are just a small way of saying how much that means."

For something more understated: "Thinking of you today. Hope these brighten your week."

For a celebratory occasion: "Congratulations, Dad—you've earned every bit of this. So proud of you."

If words do not come easily, our AI-powered card feature can help you craft a personalised message. Simply share a few details about the occasion and your relationship, and receive a thoughtful starting point you can adjust to sound exactly like you.

Top-Picked Bouquets for Dad

Certain arrangements consistently prove popular when customers order for their fathers. Bouquets featuring sunflowers, chrysanthemums and warm-toned roses rank highly—these blooms strike a balance between cheerful and dignified. Arrangements that incorporate interesting foliage, such as eucalyptus or ruscus, also tend to resonate, adding texture and longevity without feeling overly decorative.

For dads who appreciate simplicity, single-variety bouquets—particularly classic roses in deep red or amber hues—offer timeless appeal. Meanwhile, mixed seasonal arrangements in autumnal palettes suit fathers who enjoy a more relaxed, natural aesthetic. If you are uncertain, our "Amsterdam" and "Charlie" collections frequently receive positive feedback from customers sending to fathers and father figures, blending sophistication with approachable warmth.

Flowers Etiquette: Do's and Don'ts for Dad

Do consider the setting where the flowers will be displayed. If your father works in a shared office, a compact arrangement proves more practical than a towering centrepiece. If he lives alone, include a simple vase or opt for a bouquet that arrives ready to display.

Do match the scale to the occasion. A modest posy suits a casual "thinking of you" moment, while a significant milestone deserves something more substantial.

Don't default to pastel pinks or lavenders unless you know he genuinely enjoys those shades. Softer tones can feel mismatched for many dads who prefer warmer, earthier hues.

Don't overcomplicate the message. Fathers often appreciate directness—a concise, sincere note will resonate more than elaborate prose.

Don't forget timing. Sending flowers to arrive during a family gathering or special dinner adds a lovely element of surprise; arriving when he is away diminishes the impact.

How We Make Sure Your Dad Feels Truly Looked After

We understand that sending flowers to Dad is about more than the blooms themselves—it is about the entire experience. That is why we send you a photograph of his actual bouquet before our courier sets off. You will see exactly what he will receive, giving you confidence that the arrangement matches your expectations.

Our couriers handle every delivery with care, presenting bouquets respectfully rather than leaving them unattended where possible. Should anything fall short—stems arriving less than perfect, or the arrangement not quite as pictured—our support team will arrange a replacement promptly. We also offer a five-day freshness guarantee, so your father can enjoy his flowers well beyond the day they arrive. FAQ
Are flowers a good gift for a dad, and what should I choose?

Yes – a well-chosen bouquet makes a thoughtful gift for a dad, particularly in bolder, more structured styles rather than soft pastels. Bright sunflowers, roses and seasonal hand-tied mixes tend to suit fathers well.

This collection brings together arrangements that work across occasions, from birthdays and Father's Day to retirement, congratulations and get-well moments. Every bouquet is hand-tied and ready for a vase, and you can build a custom rose bouquet if you'd prefer something with more presence.

If you're unsure which to pick, our team can suggest options to match his taste and your budget over WhatsApp, phone or email.

Can you deliver in time for Father's Day?

In most cases, yes, though it helps to plan ahead. Father's Day in the UK falls on a Sunday – the third Sunday in June – and delivery options vary by location.

Within London we deliver every day, including Sundays, so a bouquet can reach your dad on the day itself. Outside London, Sunday delivery isn't available, so we usually suggest the Saturday before, or ordering early so we can confirm the best date.

Available dates always appear at checkout based on the recipient's postcode. To beat the Father's Day rush, place your order a few days ahead and add a card message at the same time.

How much do flowers for Dad cost?

Bouquets typically start at around £25.90 and rise to about £60.90 for our larger signature designs, so there's a range to suit most budgets. All prices are shown inclusive of VAT.

For something more substantial, a custom rose bouquet runs from £29.90 for 20 stems up to £69.90 for 100, in red, white, pink or a mix, with three finishing sizes to choose from.

The exact price for each bouquet, plus any delivery fee, is confirmed at checkout once you choose the date and the recipient's postcode.

Do you offer same-day delivery?

We offer same-day delivery in many areas, with availability always confirmed at checkout. Within London we deliver the same day in three-hour slots using our own drivers, hand-to-hand, from £8, or £15 for the next available urgent slot.

Outside London, same-day delivery costs £5 when you order before 15:00, and it isn't available on Sundays; next-day delivery is also £5. These orders travel by Royal Mail Tracked and other trusted couriers.

We deliver 365 days a year and aim to arrive on your chosen date, with around 95% of orders arriving on time. Enter the recipient's postcode at checkout to see the exact slots open for that address.

Can I add chocolate, a hamper or other gifts?

Yes. Alongside the flowers you can add chocolate, hampers, balloons, candles or a soft toy to make the gift feel more complete.

Popular add-ons include a Milk Tray chocolate box at £8.90, Champagne Truffles at £11.90 or a teddy bear; you'll see the full range as you order. A personalised greeting card can be added too.

Everything is selected during checkout and delivered together with the bouquet, so it all arrives as one gift on the date you choose.

Can I add a personal card message, and will my name be shown?

You can add a greeting card with your own message during checkout, as a paid add-on, written exactly as you'd like it to read.

By default, every order is anonymous, so your dad won't see your name unless you include it in the card text. If you want him to know the flowers are from you, simply sign the message.

You can write the card in any language and keep it as brief or as personal as you like.

Where in the UK do you deliver?

We deliver to most areas across the UK; the one exception is Northern Ireland, which we don't currently cover.

Delivery options are set automatically by the recipient's postcode at checkout, so you'll see exactly what's available for that address before you pay. We operate 365 days a year, including weekends and bank holidays.

Within London we use our own drivers and dedicated couriers; elsewhere we deliver via Royal Mail Tracked and other trusted UK couriers.

Can I order from abroad for a dad in the UK?

You can order from any country in the world for delivery to an address within the UK. Our website and payment system are set up for international orders.

We accept PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus major cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and others) through Shopify Payments, and all charges are taken in pounds sterling. The cards shown can vary by region and card issuer. All prices are shown inclusive of VAT.

Enter your dad's UK address and postcode at checkout, choose the date, and we handle assembly and delivery here in Britain. Our support team is available 24/7 if you need a hand ordering from abroad.

What happens if my dad isn't home when the flowers arrive?

If your dad isn't home, we can hold the bouquet at our depot for 24 hours and arrange a redelivery for £15. A refund isn't guaranteed where a delivery couldn't be completed because the recipient was out.

To avoid this, add delivery notes, share a contact number for the courier, or choose a slot when he'll be in. For orders outside London, a letterbox bouquet is a handy option, as it fits through a standard letterbox with no one needing to be home.

If plans change, contact us as early as you can and we'll do what we can to adjust the delivery.

How long will the flowers last?

With proper care, our flowers typically stay fresh for up to 12 days, and every order includes care instructions to help them last.

We back this with a 7-day freshness guarantee: if they don't last as they should, get in touch and we'll make it right. Because each bouquet is hand-tied by our florists, it arrives ready to go straight into a vase.

A few simple steps – fresh water, a clean vase and a cool spot out of direct sun – make the biggest difference to how long they keep.

Can I see the bouquet before it's delivered?

Before dispatch, we send you a photo of the actual bouquet our florists have assembled, so you can see exactly what your dad will receive.

If you'd like a change at that stage, let us know and we'll adjust it where we can before it goes out. The photos on our site reflect real sizes, shown in centimetres, with the Medium size pictured by default.

This approval step is part of every order, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can I cancel my order, and what if something's wrong with the flowers?

You can cancel within 30 minutes of paying for a full refund; after that, assembly may already have begun, so cancellation isn't always possible.

If the flowers arrive damaged or not as described, contact us within 30 days with clear photos, your order reference and the delivery details. We aim to review claims within five business days.

Depending on the outcome, we can arrange a replacement or a refund – full, partial, or covering delivery – returned to your original payment method within 5–10 business days. You can reach us on +44 20 4577 0088, WhatsApp or email.
